I think dkgenesis is alright but the version has issues with balance and bugs that have existed since it opened in 2008.
Most people just play for the nostalgia and it's a shame what happened to the steam versions of not for hackers it had a chance. There are no great servers they all have problems. No profit or copyright infringement intended. I would say now is not a good time to be a Darkeden player. ODK-DarkEmu A DarkEden Private Server Emulator This was made with just learning in mind. You get to create a new character and instantly be level 210. Not alot of players but 2nd oldest private server still alive. The most updated private server running the most up to date version they are able to get. Has pretty much only Korean players now but probably the most populated private server (I still play occasionally) Old V2 version with some custom changes to damage and to hit. The very first private server outside of China. International skills stop at level 100 and character cannot level past 150 no job change very classic game.

All of which were hosted from megaupload which is gone now, and theres no place to find the files. If not that, I can just use the basics.txt file.
